Welcome to the Biochemistry Graduate Program at Indiana University Bloomington. By becoming one of our graduate students, you will take part in an exciting multidisciplinary graduate program that is a unique integration of biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, and genetics - combined with organic, inorganic, and analytical chemistry - that will enable you to study a diverse set of biological problems. Our faculty research interests span nearly all aspects of the structure, function, and dynamics of proteins, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules, providing many opportunities for you to select an area of specialization.
Our program draws on major instrumentation and facility resources of the departments of molecular and cellular biochemistry, biology, chemistry, optometry, psychology, and physics, as well as the Medical Sciences Program. You will work and learn in well-equipped laboratories with state-of-the-art instrumentation. All of our labs are fully staffed by expert technical support personnel who can provide you with invaluable training.
You will also have access to numerous seminar series featuring distinguished lecturers from around the country, many of whom hold informal discussions and question-and-answer sessions with graduate students. We also offer group meetings and research and journal clubs that introduce our students to all areas of biochemical research. Students frequently present their own research results at scientific meetings.
The program provides the training you will need for success on a variety of career paths, in a collegial, supportive environment. Many of our recent graduates have moved on to rewarding postdoctoral positions and successful careers in academia and in pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
