The application priority date for international students is December 1, 2025. Please follow the instructions for applicants found on the University Graduate School’s “How to Apply” page to apply online. If you cannot apply online and would like a paper application, please follow these instructions.
Neither the general GRE nor the Biochemistry GRE subject exam are required prerequisites to apply. However, if you have taken these exams and wish to report your scores, you can do so in the "Optional Documents" section of your application. Official results can be sent to Indiana University using the following codes:

If your native language is not English, you are required to submit results from one of the following English language proficiency exams:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with a minimum score of 79 (internet-based test).
International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with a minimum score of 6.5.
Complete international applications for graduate study should contain the following:
- Application form (online)
- A 300-500 word Personal Statement regarding your current goals, plans for your professional career, and reasons for selecting a field of study (upload to online application)
- Official results of the TOEFL (or IELTS)
- Three letters of recommendation (uploaded online by recommenders)
- Your CV or resume with a timeline that includes your teaching, research and/or industrial experiences; a publications list, and any college or professional honors and awards
- An application fee of $70 USD
- Academic transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended must be uploaded with your online application. Official transcripts must be mailed to the following address upon admission:
