An IU team led by the Bochman lab was awarded an S10 High-End Instrumentation grant from the National Institutes of Health for the purchase of a Q-Trap from LUMICKS. This device combines microfluidics with confocal microscopy and four laser traps to enable single-molecule biochemistry experiments. The Q-Trap was recently installed, and seven students and PIs were trained to use it to study protein-nucleic acid interactions. The attached image shows DNAs tethered to trapped beads which were tied into a knot using the Q-trap.
