The spring 2024 semester ended on a strong note for the Bochman lab. On April 13, a paper authored by research associate David Nickens, grad students Spencer Gray and Robert Simmons III, and our collaborators and neighbors in Hengyao Niu's lab was published in Nucleic Acids Research (see here). We found that the telomeric single-stranded DNA binding protein Cdc13 can dynamically exchange between ssDNAs in a process that's dependent on substrate length, sequence, and the presence of both Cdc13 DNA binding domains. In other news, third-year grad student Michael Kumcu received the Biochemistry Graduate Program Best Associate Instructor Award, and long-time undergraduate researcher David Sun was accepted into medical school in Houston.
